Founded by Dr. Craig Baker, DMD, in 2009, the downtown Safety Harbor practice has served the surrounding Clearwater community for 17+ years.
Today, Dr. Baker and his wife, board-certified periodontist Dr. Cecilia Perera, combine their expertise as the perfect husband-and-wife dental team, providing family, cosmetic, periodontal, and implant dentistry.
Dr. Baker focuses on aesthetic dentistry, smile makeovers, complex restorative care, bite alignment, and advanced implants. Dr. Perera leads the in-house periodontal and implant program, allowing patients to receive more of their care in one convenient location. One of the practice’s most meaningful tools is Pearl AI, an artificial-intelligence system that assists the team in reviewing dental X-rays. According to Dr. Baker, “Pearl AI is a game changer when it comes to the diagnosis of patient X-rays.”
Pearl AI supports the dentist’s judgment by providing real-time analysis of dental X-rays, helping the clinical team identify areas for a closer look and explain what is visible on an X-ray to patients.
Making the Invisible Visible
Dental care becomes far less abstract when patients can see the issue for themselves. Baker Dental uses intraoral photography to capture detailed images inside the mouth while displaying them for the patient during the visit.
“We’re able to take intraoral photos and show them on the TV screen so that they can see exactly what’s actually going on with the tooth,” Dr. Perera said. “Seeing it really helps patients understand what is going on.”
That shift from explaining a cracked, worn, or damaged tooth to showing it can make a major difference. A close-up image lets patients connect what they are feeling with a clear visual explanation.
The goal is to make information concrete, so patients can participate confidently in decisions concerning their oral health. As April, the practice’s office manager, put it, “Actually showing them does a lot more” than unfamiliar terminology alone.
